Welcome to NRG Gladstone Power Station.
The Gladstone Power Station is a world-class facility providing customers with safe, reliable, low-cost electricity.
Gladstone Power Station was built by the Queensland Government and first commenced operation in 1976. The station has been a significant part of the Gladstone community and an important energy provider for Queensland since that time. After 30 plus years of operation we are still Queensland’s largest single power station and remain an important generating facility in the National Electricity Market. We take our role in the community, in which we all live and work, as an important part of how we seek to operate this Station.
Since 1994, the station has been operated by NRG Gladstone Operating Services on behalf of Joint Venture participants Rio Tinto Ltd (42.125%), NRG Energy Inc (37.5%), SLMA GPS Pty Ltd (8.50%), Ryowa II GPS Pty Ltd (7.125%) and YKK GPS (Queensland) Pty Ltd (4.75%).
Headquartered in Princeton, New Jersey, NRG Energy Inc is a leading competitive energy provider founded in 1989. NRG owns and operates a variety of energy related operations worldwide.

Today the electricity industry, both here in Australia and around the world is facing new and demanding challenges. We are in a world with a growing hunger for energy and we recognise the shortcomings in how we have traditionally supplied much of that energy. There is no doubt that the size of our challenge in meeting the demand for electricity is great whilst at the same time finding more efficient and sustainable means of doing so. However, our success is important not just for those who work within the electricity industry, but for all of us. We at Gladstone Power Station are aware of these challenges and are seeking to meet them. Find out more about the process and operations at the Gladstone Power Station.
To many observers looking in at large plant such as the Gladstone Power Station it is easy to be taken aback by the size and complexity of the equipment. However, for me the reality is that it is the people who operate and maintain such a plant who truly represent the amazing element. Our people at Gladstone Power Station contribute an amazing amount of knowledge, experience and drive that has allowed this station to operate well during the past 30 years. We seek to harness the power of our people, their passion for what we do and their pride in where they work so that we can better prepare Gladstone Power Station to face the challenges confronting us. We are in our own way seeking to meet those challenges in a safe, reliable, responsible and sustainable manner. Our people are the key. I would very much like to acknowledge the Traditional Custodians of the country on which our Power Station stands today and they are the Gooreng Gooreng, the Gurang and the Bailai people. These peoples have been the caretakers of this place for time in memorial and we honour their stewardship of this country.
