Gladstone Power Station provides an 18 month internal Power Station Operator Traineeship course that combines industry and GPS specific training modules in a structured program designed to accommodate trainees of varying experience and knowledge levels.
The traineeship includes training for certification as an Advanced Boiler (BA) and Open Turbine Operator (TO), GPS Power Plant Operator Certification at Unit Controller level, and a Certificate IV in Electricity Supply Industry Generation (Operations).
This course is specifically aimed at personnel with an interest in developing a career in the power generation operations field. Ideally, interested persons should have a background in a process or heavy engineering industry with a technical qualification in a related discipline.
The course is designed to allow trainees to develop skills and experience in the operation of boilers and large rotating electrical and mechanical plant associated with the generation of power.
To be eligible, applicants should have:
• A trade, technical, or tertiary qualification or equivalent industry experience; and
• Experience and a demonstrated competence in a process related field; and
• Personal attributes suited to working in a team environment under shift conditions.
